Install iPython Notebook on Ubuntu Lucid 10.04

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:chris-lea /zeromq sudo add-apt-repository ppa:chris-lea /libpgm sudo add-apt-repository ppa:chris-lea /python-tornado sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install libzmq1 libzmq-dev libpgm- 5.1- 0 python-tornado sudo pip install pyzmq==2.1.4 sudo pip install ipython=0.13.1

Run ipython notebook with pylab and figures inline at port 8888 (as default by the way):

1	ipython notebook --port 8888 --pylab inline

Of course you need to have numpy, scipy, matplotlib in order to run notebook with pylab.
